Is this a Buddhist site?

No.

While it is true that I refer to many Chinese words, ideals, philosophies & traditions, this is not a Buddhist site (for that matter:  China, as a country, is expressly athiest).  In fact,  I am a devout, uncompromising, unabashed Christian.  You will see me reference "chi" as in "life energy", or "vigor", but I know the source of life is God, and His mercies & grace.

So, when you see Chinese words here, enjoy the expanded vocabularly and continue on... Wink

What is "chi"?

Many people in the West tend to think of Qi (or "chi") as some ambiguous, religious energy form that Buddhists believe in & has strictly religious application.  However, that is not quite the case.  To be brief in this text, I will refer you to the full Wikipedia article here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qi

Chi is simply your daily vigor -- you do have an internal energy that runs through you & permits you to move, act, think, and dance.  From the wiki:  "It is most often translated as 'energy flow', or literally as 'air' or 'breath' (for example, a term meaning 'weather' is ti?nqì, literally 'sky air')."  I also like:  "Some people believe that qi in scientific terms is really "bio-electricity", the electric current which exists in nature and run through our nerves, sending signals to and from the brain." -- that just puts it in better words than I could've.

It is indeed true that chi is referred to in religious texts, and that there are some Buddhist & Taoist religious applications of the word, it is more universally accepted as described here.
